Abrasive Nylon Brush

ABRASIVE NYLON FILAMENT

DuPont™ Tynex® A

How to Choose an Abrasive Nylon Brush

Choose abrasive nylon filament for industrial brushing when you need efficient deburring, surface finishing, edge radiusing and rust removal, especially on uneven surfaces. These brushes suit metalworking (automotive parts, tools), woodworking and cleaning applications that need a durable, flexible tool that does not rust.

When to Choose Abrasive Nylon Filament

  • Deburring and edge radiusing: ideal for removing burrs from metal parts such as engine components, gears and transmission parts, and for producing consistent rounded edges.
  • Surface finishing and polishing: creates smooth finishes on metal, cleans aluminum, and hones carbide or ceramic tools.
  • Cleaning complex shapes: the flexible filament reaches uneven surfaces, internal bores and cross holes without damaging the part.
  • Demanding industrial work: suitable for high-wear applications such as wood sanding, printed circuit board cleaning and conveyor belt cleaning.
  • Safety-critical applications: often preferred over wire brushes because abrasive nylon does not oxidize and does not shed sharp wire bristles.

Key Selection Factors

  • Abrasive type: silicon carbide (SiC) is generally used for most metals and wood, while aluminum oxide (AO) is preferred for softer metals such as copper and aluminum, and for precision work.
  • Grit size: fine grits (around 500–600) are used for polishing, while coarse grits (around 80–120) are used for aggressive deburring.
  • Durability: the nylon base gives long service life and resistance to chemical damage.

Abrasive nylon is chosen when you need a self-sharpening, durable and adaptable brush material for high-quality finishing.
